Matthew Nisbett introduces the
historical origins and repertoire of an
instrument unfamiliar to most of his
audience. The recording on this page
carries just some of his chosen pieces.
He delighted his audience with the
very individual tone of the instrument,
choosing to show it off with items
which were the favourites of King
Louis XIV.
During the second half of the evening,
Alison Blundell and Michael Taylor
contrasted the mellow tones of the
theorbo with the majestic power of the
new grand piano given to the church,
in memory of her father, Clifford Tottle,
a long-time worshipper at All Saints’,
by his daughter, Bryony.
Lucy Fews, not for the first time,
demonstrated her dexterity with her
chosen instrument, the violin.
