70th Anniversary 25/26th May 1943, Uncle Les and crew. 'The Ultimate Sacrifice'.On this very night 70 years ago our Uncle Les - Flt Sgt L C Schroeder (Mum's lovely Brother) climbed into his position as Rear Air Gunner in a Lancaster Bomber along with his 6 comrades and flew from Wickenby in Lincolnshire into the dark night, heading for Germany, never to return home again. We collected poppies from the Lancaster poppy drop at the Bomber Command Memorial in London last June, 2012, and made up these crosses which we sent to Reichswald Forrest War Cemetery in Kleve, Germany, to be placed on each of these courageous young men's graves. All our love and thanks went with them. We salute you all.
