Paula Winstone of Abacus Professional Training checks Carolyn Guiness’s efforts at applying a bandage to the head of fellow course participant Peter Maitland. Over the 3 hours of the teaching session, from 6.30pm - 9.30pm in the Reading Room, Paula introduced highly practical techniques for dealing with potential sufferers from sudden loss of consciousness, bleeding and choking, or needing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.Serious as the eventualities covered were, Paula ensured that her 12 trainees were fully and actively engaged, in an encouraging atmosphere of enjoyment and humour as well as a sense of achievement. At the end, all trainees took away a certificate valid for 3 years.Click thumbnail to enlargeThe course, the latest in a series of events organised by the Patient Practice Partnership - the Wrington Vale patient group - was also run twice in Churchill earlier in the day, and once in Blagdon the following morning.
