Wrington VC Primary School celebrates Fair Week with a nosh-up
Wrington’s Fair Week Organising Committee decided they wanted to include the 155 year-
old school in the week’s festivities by laying on a street party on the playground, and by
giving a gift which would be useful into the future.
The school had already planted a horseshoe-shaped grove of willows and a bower which
would permit story-telling in an enchanting atmosphere on those days - seemingly rare -
when getting out of the classroom seems the best idea. If it’s warm enough for that, there’s
a good chance the children can sit on the grass, but what about the storyteller ?
That’s where the Fair Week Committee decided to put to good use the skills of local
historian and dramaturge, Mark Bullen. Mark can’t resist an intriguingly shaped piece of
wood, to follow up what its natural features suggest to him by way of furniture, and it was
one of these inspirational pieces, donated for the school, which the committee came by for
the story-telling seat.
Fortunately, the rain did hold off long enough for all the school to witness the unveiling of
the‘seat. They then split into two groups for a first and second sitting of an indoor street
party. As the video shows, party nosh is no less acceptable just because it can’t be
consumed al fresco.
