Wrington Scouter Dan Lloyd arranged for some lucky Beavers and Cubs to experience first-hand some various forms of flight, an invaluable contribution to their work for their Air Badge. Ross Floyd of Woodspring Wings and colleagues brought their full-size hovercraft and remote controlled helicopter model, and some fixed-wing examples. Principles of aircraft safety were explained along with the valuable role of hovercraft in sea-shore rescue. The basics of anemometers and sound meters, and general principles of lift, thrust and stability were covered. As well as the equipment the instructors brought, the making of that old favourite - paper dart aeroplanes - encouraged further understanding in a practical way.
