The Picture Framers celebrates ten years of business. Owned by Andy Hale, the business started up in 2004 in Cleeve (formerly known as Gallery 370), before establishing in the bucolic setting of Chelvey, Backwell in 2011. Housed in an open plan workshop on Brockley Lane, just off the A370, the business provides a service to the general public, interior designers and artists. Picture Framer Andy Hale said, "I can't believe we've made it to this milestone and I want to personally thank all those who have supported us over the years". When asked what his secret was, Andy replied, "It's always been about offering a relaxed, professional and creative service. Rather than impose a precut frame onto customers, I talk with them through the options, engaging them in the process, and finding how to best decorate the imagery they present to me. I make the frames on-site, they are not offthe-shelf and they are competitively priced. I think people like that. Failing that, we get Frank the Dog to melt their hearts!" With the picture framers' personal art collection on the workshop walls, and a bookshelf full of home magazines, art and framing books, you shouldn't be short of inspiration. Former business partner Georgina Micklethwaite commented, "It's just so lovely to see a small local bespoke business like this thrive and survive. Andy is a truly creative artisan. Customers often don't see how much work goes into the frames, whether it's sanding, filling or hand painting. He has an amazing array of skills that magically happen behind the scenes". Some of the more outlandish framing projects have included: sports shirts, shoes, Angel Wings worn by Graham Norton, a frame for a recently- discovered artwork by the late, great Pop artist Pauline Boty, making door frames for a boat and the latest and most complex project was making bespoke arched frames to serve as doors. The doors house antique painted panels which, when opened, reveal a mirror. The wood was stained and distressed to appear old. The Framers also runs a satellite service from The Blue Room Gallery in Nailsea. This is great way to team up with another local creative business and is a great benefit to both.
