The Rotary Club of Wrington Vale- Introduction The Rotary Club of Wrington Vale was founded back in 1976 by 23 members who wanted, by fellowship and actions, to create within the Wrington Vale area a club where like-minded people could meet and enjoy promoting charitable deeds. The club now comprises of some 40 members from many different walks of life and is not restricted to a particular area with members coming from all over the Wrington Vale and further afield. We meet every Wednesday at the Burrington Inn. The club is in existence to support charities and voluntary organizations within the local community, the wider nation and internationally both through our club activities and through our world-wide organisation called Rotary International. As a club we also have fun with sports competitions against other clubs and visits to a variety of entertainments and places of interest. Each year, we undertake a number of charitable projects which may include: ·         Taking local schoolchildren on a Rotary “Kids Out” visit to Longleat ·         Sponsoring a local disabled young person on a Tall Ship sailing holiday ·         Organising a Senior Citizen’s Christmas Party ·         Sending members into local schools to conduct mock interviews ·         Running a weekend break for local Young Carers ·         Hosting Rotary events including the Youth Speaks debating competition in local schools ·         Volunteering  at the Leonard Cheshire home in Axbridge ·         Promoting various fund-raising events to support local and international Rotary Charities including Shelter Box, Water           Survival Boxes and Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign In 2015, we completed our biggest ever fundraising project. With the help and encouragement of Rotary Clubs throughout Somerset and beyond and with the very generous support of The Friends of Musgrove Park Hospital and an anonymous Trust Fund - we have now fully met our fundraising target of £60,000 to provide a specialist Heartworks 3D Training Simulator to be used to train Doctors and other clinical staff from NHS hospitals throughout the South West on how to scan the heart safely and effectively. The equipment was presented to Musgrove Park Hospital by representatives of the Rotary Club of Wrington Vale on 25th June 2015. We have no political and no religious allegiances. We have no secret ceremonies or complex joining processes. What we do have is a commitment to putting service above self.....something we share with each one of the 33,000 Rotary Clubs in the world.
