For most of the day, it looked as if this annual event would have to be called off - or severely restricted. In the event, although the evening was dismal, the rain held off, and from 6.30pm onwards, the crowds thronging The Plough area were probably larger than any other since this popular event started. As you can see from the first 4 photos below - sent in by Julie Kingcott - it was a big night for children, both performing and being read to by Father Christmas. The remaining photos show how businesses had already started showing the Christmas spirit. The Old Boot Shop’s window, for years now a large screen for passers-by relevant to topical events, introduced a wonderful ‘Advent Calendar’ display, which, hopefully, will prove to be the start of yet another village tradition..
