Burrington News
From the Church
In August we had all three of life’s major milestones celebrated at Burrington church. Firstly there was the memorial service
for Jim Wade who lived and worked for many years in this parish. A large number of local people came to remember his life,
and the service was beautifully taken by Reverend Ann Ogram Vicar of Sandford , where he spent his last years.
On Saturday 27th we had the wedding of Luke Ford and Hannah Curtis. The church was beautifully decorated by Heather
Lee and the altar guild and included a lovely arch of flowers over the church gate.
On Sunday 28th we had the baptism of Sophia Keel with the wedding flowers still in place. The parish church once again
marked the major events in parishioners lives, showing how central it is to village life.

From the School
We have had a great start to the new school year and the children have enjoyed getting to know their new teachers and
making friends with new pupils. We have spent a lot of time thinking about this year and planning exciting events.
In September we celebrated harvest and raised money for our school charity which our school council will choose. We also
held an open day for parents of children who will be starting school in September 2017. If you missed this and would like to
visit the school please call us. We would love to arrange a chance for you to see our great school.
In October, our Y5 and Y6 children will be going to Folly Farm for 4 days to camp. They will be exploring and learning about
wildlife and making wildlife films. The quality of the films is very impressive and last time we entered the wildlife film making
competition, the children won a wildlife film award.
On November 11th we will be holding a Remembrance Day service in the church yard at 10.50 am which will be led by Y5
/6. The service is open to everyone so please come and join us. In the past we have been lucky enough to have a trumpeter
to play ’The Last Post’ but we don’t have a trumpeter in school now so if anyone would be willing to come and play ‘The Last
Post’ at the service please let me know. It’s not quite the same when it’s recorded music. All of the information is also
available on our website

The Mendip Christmas Fair at Aldwick Court Farm
Saturday 5th November 10am – 5.30pm & Sunday 6th November 10am – 3.30pm
Last year the Mendip Christmas Fair made a record-breaking £13,500, shared equally between the Guild of Friends of Bristol
Royal Hospital for Children and the Children’s Hospice South West. As well as several stalls new to the Fair, 2016 sees the
return by popular demand of some old favourites amongst the total of 40 stalls.
So, why not avoid the traffic jams, the fight for a parking space and high street stress and instead take the opportunity to
enjoy shopping with your friends for original gifts, and then enjoy a homemade cake or light lunch in this sociable and
relaxing environment. Get all your Christmas shopping done, knowing that everything you buy will help raise money for very
sick children across the south west.
There is ample free parking and access for all, with free entry for children under 16. For more information, visit our website
<www.mendipchristmasfair.org>and find us on Facebook.
